Texting Truckers

Our Aggressive Lawyers Will Defend the Rights of Victims of Texting Truckers

Distracted driving is one of the top reasons for accidents on the road, particularly with the use of cell phones behind the wheel. Texting while driving can be a particularly dangerous nuisance on the highways, especially when the texting is done by truck and bus drivers.

The federal government in January 2010 formally barred truckers and bus drivers from sending text messages while behind the wheel. The legislation is part of a growing effort to make laws to eliminate the threat of distracted drivers.

"We want the drivers of big rigs and buses and those who share the roads with them to be safe," said

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. "This is an important safety step, and we will be taking more to eliminate the threat of distracted driving."

Texting truckers are 23 times as likely as their nontexting counterparts to be involved in a crash or near miss, according to an analysis by Virginia Tech's Transportation Institute. Researchers examined commercial trucking data from 2004 to 2007 that involved 203 truckers and 3 million miles of driving.
